Week of December 6

CRESCENDO:

Warm Up: pg. 8 Hopscotch and Morning Dance; practice keeping bow close to and aligned with the bridge and opening elbow and wrist hinges to keep bow moving straight.

Review: pg. 9 Rolling Along, Seminole Chant, Good King Wenceslas; review "tunnel fingers" are (keep F# fingers down on the D string while bow plays open A string) in Good King Wenceslas. Pg. 11 Olympic High Jump; review octave with your student, (8 steps)

Current: pg. 13 Driedle, review "tunnel fingers" (bracket means keep F# fingers down on the D string while bow plays open A string) pg. 14 Jingle Bells, this is our "Challenge Piece," and many students are quickly learning the notes and fingers!

Preview: pg. 12 Song for Christine and Natalie's Rose; pg. 15 Matthew's March and Christopher's Tune

Theory: Octave - 8 notes, student should be able to draw their own clef sign and a double bar.

ANDANTE:

Warm Up: pg. 24 #87 Scale Warm up

Review: pg. 24 Frere Jacques play slowly, watching for straight bow, played close to the bridge. Listen for good intonation, especially the F#. The students are working on moving the bow faster for the two eighths and slower for the half notes.

Current: pg. 25 Can-Can work up tempo, play 3 times, slowly (adagio), medium tempo (moderato) and fast (allegro). We worked on how to practice spots. Have your student practice each "spot box" 10x very slowly, listening for good tone and articulation (starting and stopping the bow clearly with precision).

Preview: pg. 27-30, we will go over ties, slurs and violins/violas will use 4th finger next week in #99-#116.

Theory: G Major Scale pg. 27 #98 write in the note names of the G Major Scale then play.

CHAMBER:

Warm Up: Finger patterns pg. 46 #182-#188 listen carefully for good intonation and watch for where your half steps and whole steps fall in each key.

Review: Swallowtail Jig, work on playing up to tempo, shorten bow strokes for faster tempo. Learn both A and B parts
In the Bleak Mid Winter, work on playing slowly (adagio) while starting to work on vibrato. We will be working on vibrato next week. Learn both A and B parts.

Current: America the Beautiful; listen carefully for good intonation, especially the low 2's. Learn both A and B parts.
Pomp and Circumstance watch rhythm. Learn both A and B parts.
